WIT will welcome Xia Ying from Shanghai Institute of Tourism this semester where she will review the Higher Diploma in International Hotel Management

The Department of Languages Tourism & Hospitality and the International Office are delighted to host a visiting scholar Xia Ying (Shining) from Shanghai Institute of Tourism (SIT) for this semester from September to December 2016. Ms. Xia Ying will spend half of her time here in the Department of Languages Tourism and Hospitality to review all aspects of the Higher Diploma in International Hotel Management. Meanwhile, the International Office will provide introduction to Xia Ying on other relevant aspects of college activity.

Shanghai Institute of Tourism is one of the top institutions in China which specializes in tourism, hotel hospitality management and culinary arts programmes. In 2012, WIT signed a memorandum of understanding which solidified an agreement of advanced entry and staff/students exchange with SIT. Since then, WIT delegation and SIT delegation led by each Institutes presidents have been visiting each other to strengthen the links.  WIT has hosted a group of SIT students studying the Higher Diploma programme each year. This year, WIT has 11 students from SIT study this programme including 2 exchange students.

The staff and students’ exchanges projects are developing between the two institutions.  

WIT has hosted two scholars of SIT in 2016. WIT staff-Ms. Anne Grace, Ms. Lorain Walsh, Mr. Tony Quinlan, and Mr. Mathias McGivney visited SIT from 2014. Lorain, Tony and Mathias were all invited by SIT under SIT’s own scholarship for visiting partner scholars.
