Nursing Students from the Department of Nursing and Health Care recently returned from helping with the Waterford & Lismore Lourdes Pilgrimage. This initiative commenced five years ago with 3 students and 34 students participated this year. Deirdre Chapman, on behalf of the pilgrimage organisers about the initiative, said:
'We really couldn't manage the care of 110 sick people without the enormous help of the WIT students. I, on behalf of the Waterford and Lismore Pilgrimage am really grateful to Sarah, Aoife and everyone at WIT for facilitating the students to travel as part of their placement. The enthusiasm, commitment and caring attributes they bring have breathed new life into the Pilgrimage and it is wonderful to see. While caring for the patients is the priority, the students get involved in a full range of activities that help enhance the experience for the patients while on the Pilgrimage. The Waterford and Lismore Pilgrimage is the envy of many pilgrimages who struggle to get helpers'.
