David Whitty, a BSc (Hons) in Construction Management and Engineering graduate from Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT), was recently named as the 2013 Student of the Year by the Chartered Institute of Building.
David, a native of Wexford Town, took up his studies at WIT in 2009 and stood out as an excellent student from the beginning. In 2012, as part of his degree, David was selected to complete a seven month industrial placement in New York City, where he worked on the construction of a 41-storey skyscraper in Manhattan with Turner Construction.
During his final year at WIT, David excelled in his exams and received two awards for his achievements on industrial placement and his dissertation. Since graduating, David has been accepted onto the four year graduate development programme, with the international construction company, John Sisk & Son, and is currently working on the construction of a food production facility in Cheshire in the UK.
Commenting on the award, CME Programme Leader, Brian Graham noted: "During his time with us, David was always a pleasure to deal with and an incredibly hardworking student. I have no doubt that he will join the ranks of many of our graduates who go on to become leaders in the Irish and international construction sector. With a high level of graduate employment, the excellent reputation of the Construction Management & Engineering programme is built upon the success of graduates such as David."
