Vice-president of welfare in WIT’s student's union Carlowman Darren Malone shares his experience of his time in college and why he came to Waterford
Darren Malone, from Co Carlow and a past pupil of CBS Carlow is a graduate of the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Social Care Practice
So what are you doing now that the course is over?
I am currently the vice-president for welfare in WIT’s student union. I ran for the position back in March 2018 and I took up term on the first of July so I’m a few months in now and so far it’s going great.
What made you come down to Waterford?
I chose the course here in Waterford because I would’ve known people down here already and I knew they were having a great time down here. WIT is also a fantastic college and Waterford isn’t too far away from Carlow either so I said I’d take the journey down to Waterford and I haven’t really looked back since.
Was there any big experience that stood out from your time in Waterford?
I suppose when I ran for the position in the student’s union it was a great experience, my fellow classmates got on board and made a great campaign team for me they got behind me every step of the way. Back in March the elections are the most important things I look back on.
Are you happy to be graduating today?
Yeah I am delighted now, I can’t believe that it’s come around so fast. It’s great to see everyone again we haven’t seen them for a couple of weeks so it’s great to catch up.
