Alina Sile won gold at the 2015 World Skills in San Paulo. Alina trained for the World Skills event at South East Technological University (WIT) under the tutelage of Mr Ray Cullen, Head of the Department of Languages Tourism and Hospitality.
Alina competed for four days with 33 competitors from across the globe in the areas of fine dining, bar, bistro and banquet service.
The WorldSkills Competition occurs every two years and is the biggest education and skills excellence event in the world. The Competitors represent the best of their peers and are selected from WorldSkills' Member countries and regions. They demonstrate technical abilities both individually and collectively to execute specific tasks for which they study and will perform in their future careers.
Following an intensely focused and high spirited competition, the closing ceremony of WorldSkills São Paulo 2015 brought to an end the largest Competition in WorldSkills history and the first ever held in Latin America. Approximately 9,000 competitors, experts, delegates, sponsors, partners and supporters shared an emotional evening centred on recognising the excellence of the 1,189 competitors from around the world.
This is an excellent achievement for Alina and Ray who is the Head of the Department of Languages Tourism and Hospitality at SETU. Ray has recently been elected Chief Expert and Skills Manager for Abu Dhabi 2017 Restaurant Service, a global recognition of Restaurant skills training at SETU.
