An almighty total of 16 SETU sports teams will see action this week in various 3rd level sports competitions. The Gaelic games, soccer & rugby clubs across all codes are all involved in 3rd level action and the competition promises to be exciting across the board. The SETU GAA Club have a staggering 11 teams in action; from junior hurling to fresher ladies football and all the way up to senior hurling; the Institute's GAA players have a full schedule this week!
Some of the SETU GAA highlights this week include the senior hurlers who, under the guidance of Colm Bonnar once again this year, are in league action tonight at 7.30pm under lights in the SETU Sports Campus against Cork IT and this will give both teams the perfect opportunity to have a good look at their players in competitive action.
Another team to look out for this week are the college's fresher ladies football team, who compete in the annual ladies football fresher blitz which takes place in the Naomh Mearnóg GAA Club grounds in Portmarnock, Co. Dublin tomorrow.
On the colleges soccer front the SETU Premier team will hope to extend their winning run to 3 consecutive college league games when they take on Colaiste Stiofaín Naofa from Cork on Thursday at 2pm in the Waterford RSC. The team have enjoyed a terrific start to the season; defeating both UCC and IT Tralee in their first 2 matches and the lads know another win is crucial to their chances of retaining their colleges south league title.
The SETU ladies soccer team are at home to Mary I tomorrow night at 6.15pm in the SETU Sports Campus; the girls are hoping to kick start their season with a much needed win while the SETU Division 1 men's soccer team travel to Limerick on Thursday afternoon to play UL at 2pm.
On Wednesday evening the SETU men's rugby club will host our near neighbours IT Carlow in a doubleheader of colleges rugby; the Div 3 clash will kick off at 5pm while the main event of the evening see's both SETU and IT Carlow's senior teams lock horns at 7pm. Both of these games are to be played in the SETU Sports Campus and while IT Carlow have been the kingpins of colleges rugby in the past few seasons, SETU are fresh from winning the Johnny Moroney Munster Colleges Cup for the second consecutive season and will go into the game fiercely determined to upset the form book
