Three WIT lecturers have come together to pool their knowledge and to explore and develop new and creative approaches to student engagement
A new group aimed at enhancing student engagement has been established in the School of Humanities with funding from the National Forum SATLE initiative. Lecturers, Noeleen Dooley (German), Dr Hazel Farrell (Music), and Dr Don O’Neill (French and Spanish) who have been using e-portfolios, student blogging, and infographics to enhance the student experience, have come together to pool their knowledge and to explore and develop new and creative approaches to student engagement.
Leading experts
The group known as CASE (Creative Approaches to Student Engagement), was officially launched this week by one of the world’s leading experts in the area of e-portfolios, Professor Kathleen Blake Yancey, Kellogg W. Hunt Professor of English from Florida State University.
At the event, Professor Blake Yancey spoke about 'Why we should use e-portfolios in Higher Education and the practices that contribute to their success'. She has written extensively on the use of e-portfolios in different educational settings and her 2019 book, ‘ePortfolio as Curriculum: Models and Practices for Developing Students’ ePortfolio Literacy’, has become the seminal reference for integrating this high impact practice into student learning and assessment.

Lisa Donaldson from e-Portfolio Ireland also spoke about the significance of student engagement initiatives and the welcome addition of CASE to the e-portfolio community. “We look forward to developing further collaborative practices and creating more engaging learning environments for our students” – Dr. Hazel Farrell (CASE)
