The School of Education and Lifelong Learning is delighted to announce the launch of two new teacher education programmes:
-
Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Teaching in Further & Adult Education
-
Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching in Further Education
Both programmes have been approved by the Teaching Council of Ireland as Teacher Education Qualifications for Further Education and are among the first such programmes ever to be approved in Ireland. The courses aim to provide students with the necessary knowledge, skills, qualities and competences required to teach in a variety of settings within the further education (FE) sector and graduates will be eligible to apply for registration as a teacher with the Teaching Council for the purpose of teaching in the FE sector.
Both programmes will begin in October 2012 and will be delivered in SETU, over 18 months with three periods of structured teaching practice incorporated in the programme. Applicants will be required to demonstrate that they have access to an appropriate teaching practice placement setting, that they are teaching on nationally accredited programmes (FETAC levels 1-6) in a group and can meet the Teaching Council requirement to demonstrate at least 100 hours of teaching practice over the duration of the programme.
