"This course attracted my attention and it was available via Springboard which made it more feasible from a financial viewpoint."
My background:
I am an Inspector in An Garda Siochana with 32 years service. I have served in a variety of roles and locations in the organisation and presently oversee a District of approximately 90 personnel.
My motivation for doing the programme was:
I like to continually develop and learn. I have previously completed an MA in Management and an MSc in Emergency Management. After 30 years service Gardaí can retire so I was thinking about what skills could be useful if I did retire and go into the private sector. This course attracted my attention and it was available via Springboard which made it more feasible from a financial viewpoint.
The impact on my career:
I have used some aspects of my knowledge in my career, however my organisation does not really embrace Lean although there is huge scope to do so. I have promoted Lean to others and find colleagues are very interested in the subject. I have definitely used my knowledge in my private life and at home making processes more efficient and lean!
The module or part of the course that will benefit me the most:
I think process mapping was very beneficial. This makes you look at why and how we are conducting processes and see where improvements can be made. Even small improvements in a repetitive process can result in good time savings.
My advice for adult learners considering this programme is:
Go for it! It's very interesting and the online aspect meant I did not have to drive a long journey to lectures and I could undertake most of the course at times that suited me.
Why would I recommend studying in Waterford:
I found everybody very helpful and the whole online experience was hassle free.
