Organised through the SETU Social Club, over 250 toys and €200 in vouchers and monies were donated by SETU staff to the SVP Toy Appeal. In addition to this, the members of the SETU Social Club donated a further €500 to the local representatives of SVP.
“On behalf of St Vincent de Paul, I would like to sincerely thank all the staff at for their continued support and generosity over the years. Christmas is a particularly difficult time for many families in the Southeast. Last year, in Waterford alone, there were over 1445 children that received a Christmas present and we expect a higher number this year. Without the continued support of the staff of SETU, we would not be able to care for the local families,” said Michael Curran, Waterford, Area President, SVP.
SVP indicated that they are receiving up to a 1000 calls per day from people experiencing difficulties within the Southeast. Michael Curran, SVP stated that 1 in 9 families will need help this Christmas and SVP is here to make a difference to a child's Christmas with the joy of receiving a gift.
One of the organisers of the SETU SVP Toy Appeal Dr Patrick Lynch, Social Club Committee member and Director of the RIKON Research Centre thanked the SETU Social Club organising team and all the staff and students who had pledged a gift or monies. “Every year the staff of SETU surpass themselves by giving above and beyond to this fantastic and worthwhile cause. I know from speaking to SVP, that our efforts do make a real difference in a child’s life.”
