WIT student, Jamie Moore has been handpicked as one of thirty students to represent Ireland and Northern Ireland in the USA this summer. Jamie will be placed in an internship in the area of Computer Security, Politics or Youth Development as part of the Washington-Ireland Program (WIP).
Getting onto WIP was highly competitive with over five hundred students from across, Northern Ireland, Ireland and Great Britain competing for a few coveted places. This involved a written application along with an individual and group interview.
Jamie, who is 20 years old, is in his 2nd year studying a Bachelor of Science, Honors Degree in Computer Forensics and Security at SETU, where he also sits as a Class Rep on the Students Union. This is the first year WIP is supported by Institutes of Technology Ireland and Jamie is among one of the first IOT students to benefit from this.
Jamie is looking forward to his once in a lifetime trip to America: “I could not believe it when I was offered this amazing opportunity. I hope to live up to the program’s expectations, make those close to me and the organisations I am involved in proud. I plan to apply what I learn in Washington back here in Dungarvan and further afield to better my community.”
Hillary Clinton is a supporter of the Washington - Ireland Program and its students: “Many of WIP’s alumni are now emerging as a new generation of leaders committed to peace, stability and prosperity in both Northern Ireland and the Republic.”
The Washington Ireland Program is a cross-community charity which offers young leaders from Ireland & Northern Ireland the opportunity to live and work in Washington D.C. WIP is a six month programme of personal and professional development along with extensive leadership training and public service projects.
