Waterford Institute of Technology has just announced the availability of 19 new PhD scholarships, ready to commence in September 2019
WIT’s first PhD student graduated from the Institute in 1994 and 25 years on, the Institute is delighted to announce 19 new and exciting PhD scholarships for future students. These scholarships comprise 15 SETU PhD Scholarships and 4 Industry Co-Fund Scholarships (details available here»).
Each successful SETU PhD scholarship and Industry Co-Fund scholarship recipient will receive a stipend of €48,000 over the four-year period of their PhD studies at the Institute and will also benefit from their fees being covered for four years in addition to a small expense budget to help with research activities.
These 4-year structured PhD scholarships align with international best practice ensuring the scheme will not only generate impactful research outputs but will also allow students the opportunity to engage in a range of training and professional development opportunities. The benefits of a structured PhD programme are that in addition to the student’s research focus, a number of credit-based modules are also delivered to provide the student with an excellent skillset and supporting knowledge base to supplement their studies. This means that students will have acquired a wide range of expertise to facilitate their future careers, post PhD.
Co-Fund scholarships are facilitated by way of a working relationship with an industry sponsor who maintains an interest in the project being sponsored. This is a valuable opportunity for research students to work closely with real industry needs and to perhaps see their work influence the practice/strategy of a successful business. The Co-Fund Scholarship Programme enables organisations to collaborate with SETU academics and research centres to co-fund postgraduate research programmes for talented graduates. The programme is open to a range of organisations from SMEs and multinationals to NGOs, Government and other research institutions and in the past has attracted sponsor companies from a range of international locations.
