Students from across science courses at WIT were recognised for their outstanding projects throughout the year at the Science Industry Awards

The Department of Science at Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) recently held its Industry Sponsored Awards Ceremony for 2020 via Zoom.

These awards were sponsored by Source Bioscience, Environmental Science Association of Ireland, Sanofi, Bausch & Lomb, Sofrimar, Dawn Meats, Comeragh Veterinary practice, Dairymaster, AIB and for the first time Trivium Vet.

BSc in Agriculture project poster award was sponsored by Comeragh Veterinary Practice. The students in their final year of this three year degree presented their poster which outlined their project findings.

Winners

The awards were won by Aisling Prendergast who investigated the marketing and sale of beef in Ireland and abroad, and also Rhys Edghill, whose project compared protein excreted from beef and dairy cattle based on feed types and rates.

At the awards ceremony, Dr Tony Woodcock said “the contribution of Comeragh Vets and AIB, as well as Dairymaster who sponsor the Agricultural Science award, is very much appreciated. These awards would not be possible without industry support, and having such well respected companies linked with the awards gives great credibility and prestige and adds to the value for the students in terms of impact on their CV.”

High standard

Dr Woodcock also commented on the commitment of the students to complete their projects during what was a very challenging year, and said that the standard of the projects was extremely high.

The continued support of Chris McGrath from Comeragh Vets is very much appreciated by all at WIT.
