Students from across science courses at WIT were recognised for their outstanding projects throughout the year at the Science Industry Awards

The Department of Science at Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) recently held its Industry Sponsored Awards Ceremony for 2020 via Zoom.

These awards were sponsored by Source Bioscience, Environmental Science Association of Ireland, Sanofi, Bausch & Lomb, Sofrimar, Dawn Meats, Comeragh Veterinary practice, Dairymaster, AIB and for the first time Trivium Vet.

One of the award categories was the Environmental Science Association of Ireland (ESAI) Undergraduate of the Year Awards.

These awards are for the best Level 7 and Level 8 student undertaking an environmental research final year project. The best student from each institute receives an award for their contribution to the environmental field in Ireland.

Level 7 and 8 recognised

The winners were:

Chloe Quinn from the BSc in Applied Biology programme at Level 7 for her project “Detection of Clostridium in Anaerobic Digestate”.

Katie O’Toole from the BSc (Hons) in Agricultural Science programme at Level 8 for her project “Reducing Nitrogen Emissions from the Irish Dairy Sector via Genetic Improvement”. Katie was also awarded the best project presentation award at the SURE conference held in IT Carlow last autumn.
