Fourth year Recreation and Sports management student at WIT, Jamie Snell shares his experience of being a sports scholarship student for the past year
Fourth year Bachelor of Business in Recreation and Sports Management student at Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) Jamie Snell, was one of 60 WIT students who were awarded with a sports scholarship award.
Sports Scholarship student Jamie Snell Rathnew County Wicklow says,"I live in Waterford for the college year and I go home most weekends if we have a match or training, it’s not a long journey.”
The sports scholarship programme at WIT focuses on the development of athletes and offers a number of supports including financial assistance, physiotherapy and grinds, to name just a few.
“The WIT sports scholarship programme has benefited me throughout my time in WIT. The programme has allowed me to improve my sporting abilities while also keeping a good balance between my sport and studies. During my first year in the college the sports scholarship really helped me to settle into my new surroundings.”
“The reason I decided to study at WIT was because Waterford IT had the best reputation for the course I was looking for and the facilities WIT provided are of a very high quality.”
Playing Gaelic football for the past 16 years, Jamie sticks to a strict plan of training five times a week but makes sure to juggle every aspect of life, “it can be difficult at times to juggle college, sports and a social life, I tend to do a small bit of college work every chance I get, this then gives me more time to focus on sport and also still have a social life and be able to spend time with friends and family.”
