Receiving the President’s Scholarship will assist Exercise & Health studies student Hannah the chance to develop and grow her entrepreneurial skills
BA (Hons) Exercise and Health Studies student Hannah Nash was awarded a President’s Scholarship before starting at SETU for her entrepreneurial creativity and potential to make the world a greater place to live.
Head Girl to President's Scholar
Hannah came to the attention of SETU when she applied for the President’s Scholarship. As Head Girl at her secondary school in Dublin, Hannah was familiar with responsibility and has a vision to start her own business.
At her blog, Happy Healthy Han, she revealed her plan to start her own healthy snack business was founded when she attended a rugby match with her dad, and was unhappy with the unhealthy choices that were available at events like these.
The initiative proved difficult to get off the ground, but with the help of her President Scholarship bursary, she was able to give it a kick start.
One year down
Having just finished her first year as a student at SETU, Hannah had a number of kind words to say about her experience so far, “I cannot believe I have just finished my final exam for the year! I would just like to take this opportunity to thank you and everyone involved in awarding me the Presidents Scholarship last August. I have loved every bit of it from the course content, the lectures and the amazing friends I have made. I had very high expectations coming to Waterford IT and in reality everything has been better than what I could have ever expected.”
Future goals
Looking to the future, Hannah hopes to take what she learns at SETU and utilise it in promoting physical activity and health, particularly in children.
“I really want to try and make a difference in people’s lives and I plan to learn the best way to do this while studying at SETU. My goal is to work for myself so that I can do something that I am 100% passionate about and love because as the saying goes, ‘Do something you love and you’ll never work a day in your life’.”
"More than a number"
Discussing the President’s Scholarship, Hannah was delighted with the processes behind SETU finding the right scholarship student, “I never thought in a million years that I would get a scholarship for college as I was never going to get 625 points in my leaving or represent my county or country at sport. This scholarship looks at the whole person rather than just the academic or talent side. When I accepted this scholarship I felt that I had the belief of the college behind me regarding my future goals and dreams. The fact that I was more than just a CAO number to SETU will always be special to me.”
