David McClure on his way to freestyle gold at inter-varsities

A best ever finish for the WIT Vikings Kayak Club at inter-varsities but maybe even more important what the club is really about stood out the most

WIT Vikings Kayak Club had their highest achievement since the club began, finishing joint fifth at the kayak inter-varsities. This is a fantastic achievement for the club. WIT finished second overall in the freestyle with David McClure taking home gold for the best male freestyler.

Unfortunately due to bad weather two of the planned events didn’t go ahead but this did not dampen the mood of the weekend.

What the WIT Viking Kayak Club is all about

WIT were delighted to have a hand in the running of the events and when help was needed, members of the WIT Kayak Club were always happy to help. Two members helped as scribes for the judges for the freestyle event, another who is only an active member 12 months was asked to do safety for an event and ended up helping with safety all weekend.

This is what WIT Kayak Club is about, they may not finish top of the list every time but the club always shows up and does its best to help those around them and continue to excel beyond all expectation as one of the smaller clubs among Irish Universities.

Well done to all involved, it was a great weekend for the WIT Kayak Club.
