UPMC to extend the sponsorship offered to WIT Viking Sports clubs (50 teams), the Elite Sport Scholarship and Victory Basketball Scholarships
From presentation of their awards by an international athlete to the announcement of a new sponsorship deal, sports scholarship students attending the Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) Viking Sport Scholarship Awards on 26 February will enjoy an evening to remember.
WIT Vikings Sport are delighted to announce that Irish Olympian and Waterfordian Thomas Barr will be in attendance on the night to present the awards. More than 70 WIT students will be honoured for their sporting achievements through various awards.
Commitment and hard work
“It is a fantastic opportunity for WIT Viking Sport and the wider WIT community to acknowledge the hard work and commitment these students give whilst representing WIT,” WIT Viking Sports and Scholarships Officer, Jack Lyons said.
Over 70 WIT students will be honoured on the night across 16 different sports through three main WIT Viking Sport Scholarship programmes; UPMC Elite, Sport Scholarship and Emerging Talent. There are also Scholarship programmes which are part funded by outside bodies such as Munster GAA, UPMC Victory Scholarship, Bausch & Lomb and The GPA Scholarship.
In addition to the Sport Scholarship Awards, WIT Viking Sport will be announcing a sponsorship deal with UPMC. Previously a sponsor of the WIT Vikings GAA Club, UPMC, a high quality health care centre with locations in Waterford, Carlow, Kildare and Cork, has agreed to be the main sponsor for all WIT Viking Sports clubs including almost 50 teams.
“We are excited to progress relations with UPMC in order to improve the student experience with both WIT Vikings Sport and the WIT Vikings Sport Scholarship programme,” said WIT Vikings Head of Sport, John Windle.
UPMC has also committed to sponsor the Elite Sport Scholarship for Phil Healy, a Tokyo 2020 hopeful and the Victory Basketball Scholarships which is a programme that allows American students travel to Ireland to study and play basketball each year.
“We are excited to continue our support of this institution and its dedicated student athletes, who work hard both in the classroom and on the pitch,” said David Beirne, managing director of UPMC in Ireland, who will be on hand to present the UPMC Elite Scholarship and Victory Scholarships on the night.
