Huge announcement at WIT Vikings Sport Scholarship awards night as UPMC announced a sponsorship deal with all WIT Viking Sport teams going forward

WIT Vikings Sport and the WIT Viking Sport Scholarship Committee were delighted to host the 2020 sport scholarship awards in the WIT Arena on Wednesday the 26th of February. The Awards Ceremony welcomed 58 WIT students from 16 different counties and 13 sports to the 2020 scholarship program in the presence of WIT Registrar Dr Derek O’Byrne, Head of Sport John Windle, Sport Scholarship Chairman Colm Bonnar and special guest on the night, Irish Olympian, Thomas Barr.  There were three main award categories on the night including UPMC Elite, Sport Scholarship and Emerging Talent as well as awards which are part funded by outside bodies including UPMC & Victory, Munster GAA, GPA and Bausch & Lomb.

WIT Sport & Scholarships Officer Jack Lyons had this to say “Sean Geoghegan, Katie Redmond, Tom Grinsell and I are lucky enough to deal with these students each day in the WIT Viking Sports Office and witness first-hand the hand the hard work and commitment these students show whilst representing WIT. It’s fantastic to take a moment to recognise and congratulate the students for it.”

WIT Viking Sport were also delighted to announce that UPMC were extending their current sponsorship of the WIT Vikings GAA club to all WIT Viking Sports Club at this year’s Sport Scholarship Awards. UPMC have also agreed to sponsor the UPMC Elite Sport Scholarship at WIT as well as the UPMC Victory Scholarship. WIT Head of Sport John Windle made the announcement during his speech at the awards, followed by UPMC’s CEO in Ireland David Beirne, who expressed his delight at the new deal which is a huge boost for all sport at WIT.

UPMC is a high quality health care provider with locations in Kildare, Cork, Carlow and Waterford and have made some links with Sport in Ireland including Kilkenny’s Nolan Park, The GPA/WGPA and now WIT Viking Sport. All at WIT Viking Sport were delighted to welcome David Beirne, Mary Worden and Laura Guido from UPMC on the night for the announcement of the sponsorship.

“We are excited to continue our support of this institution and its dedicated student athletes, who work hard both in the classroom and on the pitch,” said David Beirne, CEO of UPMC in Ireland, who was on hand to present the UPMC Elite Scholarship and Victory Scholarships on the night.
