The ethos of this research group takes human and social need as its starting point. We focus on “Design for Society”, including design for social and business organisations.
Our current expertise is broadly in line with the 2016-17 Horizon 2020 programme themes, such as co-creation and user-driven innovation. We would hope that the establishment of this research group will assist in making more permanent connections with colleagues within WIT and externally. It is envisaged that these connections will lead to participation in European funding programmes such as Horizon 2020.
Initially, the activities of this research group will be very practical, addressing the needs of organisations in the region through existing expertise in:
- Branding and Identity
- Visual Communication
- Digital Media
- User Experience Analysis and Design
As the group develops, the areas of design, communications and cultural theory will contribute to its research activity.
Current research expertise includes:

- Design Thinking
- Instructional Design
- Cultural Theory and Material Culture
We plan to grow these areas, both practical and theoretical, as a seedbed for larger projects,
which will address the theme of social innovation through design thinking.
