The SABRE Research Centre is a strategic alignment of existing research and innovation activity within the Department of Architecture & Built Environment. The Centre incorporates 3 Research Groups (aRCH, BIMC and iBERG) that have operated over the past 10 years and individual ‘self-tasked’ research active staff. The SABRE Centre is built upon the extensive set of industry partnerships that have been established over the 52-year history of WRTC, WIT and now SETU. Many of these are supported at local, regional and national levels by Enterprise Ireland and the relevant professional bodies (Engineers Ireland, RIAI, CIAT, SCSI, CIOB, CABE, and Energy Institute). These partnerships include extensive alumni networks for the relevant disciplines, many of whom are operating at very senior levels across the sector in Ireland and Internationally.
SABRE seeks to develop innovative approaches, procedures, technologies, and techniques that support the design, management, reconfiguration, maintenance and operation of buildings and infrastructure, their fabric and the environments they create and is guided by the SETU mission, vision and values in its activities.
SABRE focuses on six connected key thematic areas that are contained within the realm of Architecture and the Built Environment. Many of the research and innovation challenges involve a combination of these themes and multi-disciplinary approaches. This is particularly evident in the context of addressing climate change targets for buildings and infrastructure.
