Under the US-Ireland R&D Partnership programme, a ‘single-proposal, single-review’ mechanism is facilitated by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and National Institutes of Health (NIH) who accept submissions from tri-jurisdictional (USA, NI and RoI) teams to a number of their existing funding programmes. The overall goal of the Partnership is to increase the level of collaborative R&D amongst researchers and industry professionals across the three jurisdictions. The aim is to have valuable discoveries and innovations which are transferable to the marketplace, or will lead to enhancements in health, disease prevention or healthcare. The proposal must be aligned to : Sensors and Sensor Networks, Nanoscale Science and Engineering, Telecommunications or Energy & Sustainability.

- Eligibility:
To be deemed eligible for funding, a minimum of one applicant from each jurisdiction – NI, US, and RoI ‐ must be named on the proposal. Each funding agency has its own set of eligibility criteria based on the applicant’s track record. 1. The lead applicant (and co‐applicant/s) must be: (i) A member of the academic staff of an eligible Research Body (permanent or with a contract that covers the period of the award), or (ii) A contract researcher with a contract that covers the period of the award, or (iii) An individual who will be recognised by the Research Body upon receipt of the US‐Ireland R&D partnership programme award as a member of the academic staff or as a contract researcher as defined above. The applicant does not necessarily need to be employed by the Research Body at the time of proposal submission. 2. The applicant must hold, or have held an SFI research award (*) as either lead Principal Investigator (PI) or co‐PI. Or If the applicant is not an SFI awardee, s/he is expected to have demonstrated research independence through securing at least one independent research grant as lead investigator or as co‐investigator. 3. The applicant and any co‐applicant(s) must have held a Ph.D. or equivalent qualification for at least five years by the proposal deadline. RoI applicants can apply to SFI for direct costs of up to €350k for a 3‐5 year duration. In addition to the direct costs, SFI also makes an indirect, or overhead, contribution to the host Research Body, which is reflected as a percentage of the direct costs (excluding equipment).

This call aims to support large, collaborative UK-Ireland projects that achieve a transformational impact in the digital humanities through innovative, multidisciplinary research that engages extensively with wider partners.

Principal Investigator and Co-Investigators in all disciplinary areas as per the Irish Research Council’s pan-disciplinary mandate, provided that the consortium’s scope falls within the Digital Humanities field.
- Eligibility:
Project Principal Investigators must meet standard AHRC and IRC eligibility rules. There must be a Principal Investigator from each country; the inclusion of additional CoInvestigators is permitted. Irish PIs must be contracted by an Irish HEI, with a contract of sufficient duration to carry out the proposed research from the project start date until the project end date. There are no restrictions on the eligibility of non-academic partners (museums, cultural institutions, private companies, NGOs etc.). Should they not be Irish-based, the rationale behind their inclusion must be clearly justified.

The maximum amount that can be applied for by UK applicants is £400,000 (fEC) paid at 80% (up to £320,000), and €270,000 for Irish applicants (paid at 100%). Only UK costs can be costed into the requested Je-S budget, Irish costs should be included in the non-UK Component attachment (‘Budget form for Irish Costs. The formal grant start date is 1st August 2021. The proposal must have a duration of up to 36 months.

Applications should be submitted by the UK PI through the Je-S system by 4pm on Thursday 18th March 2021, and will need to go through the appropriate institution submission process prior to this. Applicants failing to complete the outlined submission process will be automatically disqualified. The objective of the Irish Cancer Society Translational Research Fellowship Scheme 2021 is to support excellent early-stage (0-4 years’ experience post-PhD) cancer researchers to develop as independent researchers in their chosen area of translational biomedical cancer research. It is expected that the successful fellow will plan on pursuing a long-term career in academic research.

The objective of the Irish Cancer Society SNAH Research Scholarship is to offer excellent graduates from nursing, allied health, and social sciences the opportunity to undertake postgraduate training in cancer research. Applications aligned with the Irish Cancer Society Strategy (2020-2025) are sought from individuals wishing to pursue a PhD in cancer research in an area of social, nursing, and allied health sciences, including, but not limited to: psychology, nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, public health, social work, speech and language therapy, and dietetics.

The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland invites applications for its sustainable energy research, development and demonstration programme. This programme aims to accelerate the development and deployment in the Irish marketplace of competitive energy-related products, processes and systems and to support solutions that enable technical and other barriers to market uptake to be overcome. The goal is also to grow Ireland's national capacity to access, develop and apply international class RD&D and to provide guidance and support to policy makers and public bodies through results, outcomes and learning from supported energy projects

Open Strand - The open strand of the Call provides an opportunity for applicants to propose projects within SEAI’s legal remit which directly address the aims and objectives of the SEAI RD&D Funding Programme Call Topic Strand - The Topic Strand provides an opportunity for applicants to submit proposals that address the requirements of the topics outlined within the Call document. The objective of the Irish Cancer Society Social, Nursing, and Allied Health (SNAH) Research Fellowship is to support excellent early- to mid-stage (0-6 years’ experience post-PhD or equivalent) cancer researchers and clinical professionals (nurses and allied health professionals) to develop as independent researchers. This Fellowship (2 years full time or 3-4 years part time) is specifically intended to fund research that seeks to reduce the burden of cancer and is aligned with the Irish Cancer Society Strategy (2020-2025).

- On offer:
The maximum funding granted for this fellowship is €160,000 to be undertaken either 2 years full-time or 3-4 years part-time. A part-time fellowship is allowable for nursing and allied health applicants who hold a concurrent clinical post in their professional field. Within the total budget, €5,000 is restricted for a Mobility and Capacity Building Element. The remaining €155,000 can be used for salary (based on IUA rates or HSE pay scale for nursing and allied health applicants), small equipment items, running costs, training, travel and dissemination (separate from the Mobility and Capacity Building Element), and Public and Patient Involvement costs (a minimum of €1,000 should be budgeted for involvement costs).
