The Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, through the Higher Education Authority, has provided funding to higher education institutions to cover costed extensions for certain research activities that are at risk because of interruptions (including possible future interruptions) caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The HEA cost extension budget provides funding for additional payments (salary / stipend) of up to 4 months to be made in exceptional cases to research projects that were active on 6 January 2021 and where activity was interrupted due to the COVID-19 crisis.
Research students and contract research staff whose research has been interrupted by the pandemic may apply for an extension of their contract/stipend period of up to a maximum of 4 months under this programme. (Please Note: Postgraduate Students on the SETU Waterford Scholarship Programme are eligible to apply and Postgraduate Students on SUSI grants are eligible to apply)
Research students who are not in receipt of a stipend or a grant and whose work has been disrupted cannot apply for this scheme but should apply for a no-cost extension and may be eligible to have their continuation fees paid. If you are applying for a NCE you will also need to complete the full application form.
SETU Waterford is processing a 2nd call for applications under the programme via a 1 stage full application process with later trances to be decided depending on remaining budget.
See Full Application Tab on how to apply.
