Teaching Ethos

Once you join the School of Business, the focus is on your development and learning over your period of study.  We pride ourselves on our staff-student relationship and on being student centred.

We participate in your development to enable you to reach higher and aim further.  The School’s teaching ethos can be summarized as developing thinking professionals, fit for practice and fit for life.  Our teaching methods encourage you to reflect on your progress, and use on-going assignments and technology supports to help you engage with the material and achieve your expectations.  We support you to learn as you go and in many subjects reward you for this effort through continuous assessment. You are given ample opportunity for getting feedback on your progress through completing tasks, assignments and sample questions.

Business education is relevant to every organisation and to most things we do and create.  On top of the theories behind how business works is its practice and we make our teaching relevant to practice so that students are fit for the real world of work.  This is achieved through applying the material we teach through guest lecturers, through case studies, through work placements. In addition to this, we realise that business is about the world around us and our future student experts must be ready for life.  Our teaching ethos is rooted in business theory, society, business practice, and work life.

The School is linked to the business professional bodies in our key subject areas, for example, in accountancy and human resources.  This ensures a relevant qualification and that the School has a wider global professional network for its graduates.
