Dr Mary Fenton, Head of Department of Education
I am responsible for the development and management of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes for education professionals working across the spectrum of education. WIT's Department of Education aims to develop and offer innovative CPD opportunities for Irish and international educators in order to enhance their learning, networking and career opportunities.
The Department of Education has been a leader in the provision of initial and continuing professional development (CPD) programmes for education professionals working across the spectrum of education. We aim to develop and offer innovative CPD opportunities for Irish and international educators in order to enhance their learning, networking and career opportunities. Our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes focus on teaching and learning in higher education, further education, adult education, community education and adult literacy. We also offer aspiring educational leaders a MA in Managment of Education. All of our programmes are designed for educators who wish to progress their academic qualifications and to develop their knowledge, skills and confidence to become effective change agents within their own educational context.
Our faculty supports students' advanced research in strategic areas of: (i) professional development in adult and further education; (ii) policy and practice in further education, training, adult education, adult literacy and lifelong learning; (iii) technology-enhanced teaching and learning; and (iv) leadership and innovation in education.
As the Department's origins are in adult education, a respect for adult learners is an integral part of the ethos of the Department of Education and this value underpins the Departrment's mission, values and processes.
