The Department of Education offers initial teacher education and continuing professional development (CPD) programmes to teachers and educators in primary, post-primary, further education and training (FET) and higher education.

This academic year is a new departure for us all in WIT as our taught programmes are migrating fully online in accordance with: (i) the Higher Education Framework’s for the delivery of programmes that provide for health and safety protocols; and (ii) the Institute’s decision to deliver all programmes online in 2020/21.  We are steadfast in our commitment to offering our students, all adult learners,  a positive learning experience, where they can interact with their lecturers and peers in a collaborative learning environment.  Our lecturers and support staff are committed to supporting, encouraging and guiding our students, to academic success and career advancement.

We offer the following programmes and research opportunities:

Undergraduate programmes (Levels 6 to 8) in Adult Literacy; Adult and Further Education; Community Education and Development and Social Enterprise Management.

Initial Teacher Education Programmes (Levels 8 & 9) for teachers and educators in the FET sector.  Both the BA (Hons) in Teaching in Adult and Further Education and the Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching in Further Education are Teaching Council-approved teacher education qualifications (TEQ) for practitioners working in the FET sector.

Postgraduate Programmes (Level 9):  The MEd in Teaching and Learning and the MA in Management in Education are designed to develop participants’ knowledge, skills and confidence to become positive and effective change agents within their own educational setting.

Research Opportunities: Masters by Research or Structured Doctorate in Education in the field of Policy, Practice and Professional Development in Education.

We hope that you find a programme or pathway of study to meet your own education and/or CPD needs and ambitions.  If you need any advice, please feel free to contact the Programme Leader or me.
