The Literacy Development Centre (LDC) is a national centre, based in WIT, which offers a suite of third level professional development programmes for adult educators, practitioners, tutors and managers working in the adult literacy, adult education, community education and the wider further education and training (FET) sector.
Certificate in Adult Literacy Studies - Level 6 - 30 credits (WD_BADLT_MA)
The Certificate in Adult Literacy Studies is a 30 credit NFQ/QQI Level 6 minor award aimed at current adult tutors and explores theories and good practice in adult literacy, adult basic education and adult education. This programme is ideally suited for tutors of adults who do not have a background in adult literacy tutoring but wish to gain an understanding of adult literacy needs and be introduced to approaches in addressing needs that would be relevant and applicable in their classroom. It is a modular part-time programme with a delivery model that facilitates the working practitioner.
Higher Certificate in Arts in Literacy Development - Level 6 - 120 credits (WD_BLITD_C)
The HC in Arts in Literacy Development is a third level qualification for those working in adult literacy or those wishing to pursue a career in adult literacy. The aim of this two year programme is to enable adult literacy personnel to explore theories which underpin various aspects of adult literacy and adult education practice, while enabling them to evaluate current scholarship in literacy.he programme has been developed in conjunction with NALA to ensure it is relevant to the current developments in the sector and that the programme consistently meets the standards required for literacy practitioners.
Higher Certificate in Arts in Adult and Further Education - Level 6 - 120 credits (WD_BADFE_C)
The HC in Arts in Adult and Further Education is a third level qualification for current adult and further education practitioners and those wishing to pursue a career in adult or further education. This includes those currently working in adult basic education, further education and training and community education. It is a modular part-time programme with a delivery model that facilitates the working practitioner that is based on weekend teaching blocs and use of the SETU Waterford virtual learning environment.
Bachelor of Arts in Adult and Further Education - Level 7 - 60 credits (WD_BADFE_D)
The BA in Adult Education is designed for practitioners in the Adult Education sector and includes aspects of adult education research, policy, equality and technology.
Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Teaching in Adult and Further Education - Level 8 - 60 credits (WD_BTAFE_B)
The BA (Hons) in Teaching in Adult and Further Education has been designed to meet the needs of people who are working within the Further Education sector and who wish to register with the Teaching Council of Ireland as a Further Education teacher. This programme is Teacher Council-accredited.
Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Adult and Further Education - Level 8 - 60 credits (WD_BADFE_B)
The BA (Hons) in Adult and Further Education is designed to provide those already working within the adult and further education sector with the opportunity to deepen their knowledge, skills and competences to enhance their work in those settings. Students on this programme have the opportunity to learn research skills and investigate a topic relevant to their practice. This programme is aimed at those who do not need or already have Teaching Council registration.
