Music tuition has been available at the SETU Waterford Music School for over thirty years and is now an integral component within WIT. In 1994 the Music Department moved to the Good Shepherd Convent, a move that allowed the Music School to develop its activities. The beautiful Chapel in the College Street Campus with its superb acoustic provides a performance area that has now become a popular venue for music making in the City, with regular recitals, concerts and choral concerts.
Students of the SETU Waterford Music School can prepare for both the Associated Board and Royal Irish Academy examinations, local, national and international competitions but above all aim to create an atmosphere of enjoyment in achieving a high standard of proficiency. Students throughout the years have achieved impressive results in examinations and feiseanna both locally and nationally. Our past pupils have successfully undertaken music at third-level colleges, including the BA music course at SETU Waterford and have successfully undertaken teaching roles and become professional music performers
Students are encouraged to participate in the various group activities within SETU Waterford Music School. Our choral programme, orchestras and ensembles regularly perform at concerts and competitions both locally, nationally and internationally. A regular feature of SETU Waterford Music School is performing for Charities throughtout the city, including the Friends of St.Patricks Hospital, the Memorial Tree in Waterford at Christmas and the Massed Bands Charity Concert, WLRfm live broadcasts and in 2011 the Late Late Toy Show.
