Testimonial from student Rohan Date
Member of the Irish Boxing High Performance Team
Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Recreation and Sport Management
“The Bachelor of Business with Sport and Recreation Management was the perfect choice for me because of my interest and involvement in boxing. The course modules are extremely appropriate because of the wide range of theoretical and practical content within. The mix of business with sports related modules works really well and ultimately facilitates flexible careers choices. My work placement experience with Paralympics Ireland was really great and has helped me think about possible future career pathways. The staff at SETU Waterford have always been very helpful and supportive in relation to my academic studies and my boxing commitments which recently involved a trip to Moscow to participate in the European Championships . There are great opportunities both home and abroad with this course and I have no hesitation in recommending it.”

"The mix of sport and business modules has given me an excellent grounding for both future employment and further study. Given the diversity of the sports industry, the wide range of subjects given each student a range of potential avenues to specify in upon their completion of the course.
An entire semester on work placement gave me great experience, in my case with an NGB, and also made me aware of how theoretical knowledge applied in practice. The work placement coordinators advertise numerous
"Lecturers and staff are to the fore in terms of keeping modules up to date with the industry and are never found wanting in this respect. Furthermore, the open door staff policy always ensures that a student in any difficulty always has somewhere to turn to when they need it which is always reassuring. The friendly nature of all staff and small class sizes facilitate a pleasant atmosphere in each class.
In 2012, an 18 strong group from the DHSES travelled to Moshi, Tanzania to volunteer on a number of projects in the area, which is something I would never have done had it not been for the opportunity afforded to me and fellow students in Sport and Recreation Management"
"SETU Waterford is a vibrant campus with numerous amenities in the college grounds. The most recent addition, the SETU Waterford Sports Campus, has been of huge benefit to sports team in the college and is sure to continue to grow in the coming years. Even if you aren’t a big sports fan, or maybe want to try something new, Clubs and Societies caters for a wide range of groups and will also assist in forming new clubs which currently don’t exist. The social life is also great and SETU Waterford is certainly a place you will make friends for life"
Cora Hennessy, BA (Hons) in Exercise & Health Studies
I am studying BA (Hons) in Exercise and Health Studies, which is a relatively new course. I chose to do this course because of the broad spectrum of study within it. You are never stuck to one area of work afterwards and there are plenty of options for further study. I work in a gym part time which helps because I see some of the theory in practice.
I am so glad I made the choice to study at WIT. The campus is great and I have made so many friends over the past two years, which makes college life ‘plain sailing’! Everybody you meet is so friendly. I’d recommend the BA (Hons) in Exercise and Health studies to anyone who likes to work with people and has a genuine interest in different health issues.”
Ann Brien, BA (Hons) in Health Promotion
“There is a huge demand for health promotion professionals in Ireland (and the rest of the world) today. SETU Waterford was one of the first colleges to recognise this and offer a course to meet this demand. I have no doubt but that it was the right choice of course and college for me!”.
