Do you want to make a difference in the world?
Do you want to support people who are vulnerable?
Do you believe in respecting differences in people?
Do you believe that everyone in the world has a right to be treated equally?
Working with people with intellectual disabilities is a very rewarding career . Very often they need support to learn new skills, to live independently, to be accepted by others in society and to have their rights recognised.
Sometimes, however, people with intellectual disabilities develop the same illnesses as the general population - minor coughs and colds or more serious conditions such as diabetes, epilepsy, arthritis or cancer. When you qualify you may find yourself working a range of health care settings providing specialist nursing care in schools, community settings, residential care facilities, paediatric wards and other clinical settings.
As a result your education as a Registered Nurse in Intellectual Disabilities (RNID) will equip you with a wide range of skills and competencies to provide appropriate support for the people you will work with.
