The Department of Social Care & Early Childhood in WIT, one of Ireland’s longest established providers of education in this field, is a unique learning community priding itself on its relationship with its students and its wider community. The Department incorporates practice and professionally orientated programmes of education, with strong and established links to social care and early childhood community of practices, both regionally and nationally.
The Department’s core theme involves bringing theory to life through practice. Our focus on the integration of theory to practice ensures that our students are fit and ready for the challenging, dynamic and exciting careers which await them upon graduation.
Our team of academic and professional support staff work to ensure that our students receive training in all of the professional skills, knowledge and competencies necessary to succeed in their chosen fields and that personal and professional development underpins all that we do.
All of our undergraduate degree programmes encompass work placements, which provide our students with the opportunity to apply their learning in challenging real-world environments, enhancing the learning acquired in the lecture-rooms, and exposing students to situations in which they must think on their feet and develop to their full potential. Our staff team comes from both academic and practice backgrounds and bring a huge breadth and depth of experience with them to share with our students.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Department.
Allison Kenneally, Head of Department of Social Care & Early Childhood
